He who hesitates, misses the window of opportunity.
Rating: Irresistible, hedonistic French meets swaggering, broad-shouldered Aussie. $16
The rest of the story: First thing first. This wine never would've come across our radar if it weren't for Jack McNamara of Far Hills, NJ. We owe you one, Jack!
Many wines we've had from the Cotes du Roussillon region have been loaded with flabby fruit that just doesn't seem to fare so well on its trip across the Atlantic. This is not one of those wines.
Full-bodied and loaded with fresh, juicy, hedonistic fruit, the Chimeres also has a real backbone and structure that make this wine irresistible. Already terrific on its own, it really comes alive with food and delivers an incredible one-two punch. A very tasty wine.
This inky-violet blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Carignane is not for the faint of heart - and it's a not-so-subtle candidate for our 2010 Must Have list - even though it's only January!
Now, back to Mr. McNamara for a second...Standing in front of a huge display of this wine at Gary's Wine in Bernardsville, NJ, Jack said this was definitely a wine worth trying. Our weak knees confirm his recommendation. Marked down from $20, we paid $15.99. But get this: Gary's is doing FREE SHIPPING on case orders. Want to take advantage of that? Either order online or call Neil Winestock (yes, that's really his name), Wine Manager at Gary's at 888-994-2797.
He who hesitates, misses the window of opportunity. You don't want to be that guy/girl.
Enjoy!
