Screaming $12 Value: A Goat In Lambs Clothing

Thanks to a recommendation from my brother-in-law, this over delivering bargain will make several repeat appearances at the Winethropology tasting table.  (Thanks, Joel!)

While the 2008 Vinum Cellars Petite Sirah is labeled a Petite, it drinks equal parts Petite and earthbound Syrah.  Anyone who has experienced the allure of funky, savory Syrah already knows the pull, just as Petite Sirah lovers can't resist its strength and unapologetic insistence.

But to have both varieties being channeled by this (supposed) 100% Petite (seriously doubtful) makes this a deal worth grabbing by the case.  And at $12?  Damn!

The goat-angus burgers charred on the grill tonight didn't stand a chance.  This wine drips with character and structure and out classes many Rhone-style wines at twice+ the price.  If you like the savory side of Syrah and the brickish side of Petite - and a screaming bargain - run, don't walk, to pick this up.

Cheers!
