Once upon a time, this producer was on a shortlist of my favorite domestic brands at the value end of the spectrum. Chardonnay, merlot, petite sirah…it pretty much didn't matter what the variety was, the result was always solid. I'm not sure if they lost their wholesaler in the local market here, but it disappeared from my radar for a while. It's been several years since I've had any of their wines, so I was curious as to whether they have maintained quality along with (extremely reasonable) pricing. If this cabernet is any indication, they have. Tasting like California cabernet used to, it's brightly flavored, but with full-bodied undertones and warming cake spice and oak notes. It's even got some food-friendly acidity, a nice bonus. Exceedingly drinkable, only a fool wouldn't grab a handful of bottles at this price. (Purchased $12) 91 points
