From a very well-known producer of Chateauneuf du Pape in the southern Rhone Valley comes this lesser-known cru bottling. Made from a similar blend do you want you would expect from run of the mill Cotes du Rhones (syrah, grenache, etc.) but sourced from the Vinsobres subregion, the quality of the 2018 Famille Perrin Vinsobres Les Cornuds ($20) this wine shines through and is a cut above thanks to its focus and acidity. Poised and elegant, it nevertheless has a powerful core and carries its intensity with understatement. Absolutely worth the few extra bucks to upgrade. Thanks to Famille Perrin's widespread distribution network, in the US, odds are pretty good that, if you ask for it, your favorite local retailer should be able to order it in for you. 91 points
