Domaine Bousquet could be singlehandedly responsible for my liking malbec again. After years of sampling hard-edged examples that felt like harsh petite sirah, this producer's organic farming and capable winemaking has turned the tide.
The most recent example is the 2021 Domaine Bousquet Reserve Certified Organic Malbec $18 Not a drop out of place in this very well made, textbook high altitude Argentine malbec. Pretty in the glass, as is on the nose, where concentrated violets overlay a core of deep red fruit and elegant lines. Seamless texture, food-friendly acidity, and precise structure hold the medium oak presence and honest varietal fruit in balance. (For an upgrade on oomph and sex appeal, their Gran Malbec bottling is worth the search and tariff.) 91 points, sample.
