A good GSM will pull all the best qualities from its component grapes: grenache, syrah, and mourvedre. When done well, you get some brambly (sometimes rowdy) fruit, brawny backbone, and an almost smoky savory character that serves as a terrific counterpoint to the fruit. The 2020 Barossa Valley Estate GSM ($11) does all that in a package that's very difficult to put down. Is it the most complex iteration of this blend? No, but it does punch above its weight on that front and would hold its own in a blind tasting against wines 3-4 times the price. Also, you can buy this at many grocery stores. Oh, and the price? As far as I can tell, it has remained steady for at last the last 5 years - show me another winery that's been able to do that. 93 points
