2019 Balverne Cabernet Sauvignon Chalk Hill $48
Looks just like a cabernet should, and smells like it, too. But where this wine diverges from the pack is all in the mouth. Extremely approachable, soft, rich (without being overpowering), and honest to where it came from. Chalk Hill shines through beautifully in this very balanced and lovely cabernet, where generous, dark fruit is framed by restrained acidity and soft tannins. The texture is as fine as Savile Row's best fabrics. Very, very well made, and all the better for not being showy about it. 79% cabernet is rounded out with equal parts petite verdot and malbec, and a smidge of cab franc. Bravo. 92 points (Sample)
