2020 Domaine d'Auphilac 'Lou Maset' Languedoc ($20)
Wow, what a wine! There's an initial funk on opening that dissipates somewhat, but not entirely, with air - and that's not a bad thing. This is the George Clinton kind of funk which is merely an accessory for the purity of fruit that takes center stage. Grenache and cinsault dominate the blend here, and the winemaker has let them express themselves without undue influence or manipulation. I first had this wine a couple of years ago, and it somehow fell off my radar, but after having it twice now in the span of a week, I just scooped up a six pack at a scorching deal of $15 (normally $20-ish dollars.) Add a point if you can find it as inexpensive as I have, but this is a delightful summer red deserving of at least 93 points.
